In summer 2009, which concludes the centenary year of the Indian Institute of Science, the Department of Physics, founded by Professor C.V. Raman, also completes its 75th year. To commemorate this occasion we are organizing a five-day conference "Frontiers and Directions in Condensed Matter Physics". Talks at this meeting will cover the collective properties of matter: crystalline, glassy, liquid-crystalline, and fluid; from the nanoscale to the macroscale; and from electrons and phonons to living cells.
