My Childhood

When I was only 6 year old, I used to do long mathematical calculations very fast and that also without using paper and pen (using only my brain). This gifted talent of fast mental calculation made me popular as "Mathematical Whiz kid" , when it came to the attention of local media. I remember, the first newspaper report on me was published by "Aaj" (a leading Hindi daily in Bihar) on Feb. 14, 1994. Then a little later, Jansatta (a Hindi daily) published a nationwide article about me on it's front page on May 28, 1994. I started getting assistance and appreciations from all over India out of which, two were significant. First, Bihar's then Chief Minister Shri Laloo Yadav Ji invited me to his residence and announced a cash award and a gift of personal computer to me. Second, Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh International Social Service organization gave me financial support to settle in New Delhi (capital of India) for better education prospects and oppurtunities. For a 6 year old child, these things were something which can't be mentioned in words. After all, it was the first impression of my life.

Side-by-side, another things were also going on, which started from my sixth birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a special birthday gift. It was the bestselling popular science book "A Brief History of Time" written by Prof. Stephen Hawking. The main reason, why my father gave it to me, was because I always used to disturb him by asking questions about Universe, Earth, stars etc. I finished that book in 3 days and after which I was left only with more and more deeper questions. I came to know about Black holes, Einstein's theory and Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting for me). I started reading other popular science books (second one that I read was "In Search of Big Bang" by John Gribbin) and always used to think about these scientific questions.I was not able to focus on my school studies. I wanted to do some original research and the school studies was the biggest hurdle for me. I found school very boring and finally, I decided to finish my schoolings as soon as possible.
