I & IISc

I joined IISc (Indian Institute of Science) in Aug. 2002. Everything was new here: a beautiful campus, an air-conditioned city (Bangalore), new hopes and ambitions, different type of mess food and a new community. At first, I was little bit uncomfortable with all this, but very soon this campus became like just another home. Most of the IISc community took special care of me as I was the youngest student here. I am also thankful to my guide Prof. H.R.Krishnamurthy, some of the IISc professors, staffs and my IISc friends for providing me a friendly, rather than purely academic, environment. So, just after two months, all this made me very very comfortable with IISc.

For the first year, I was busy in my course-work. I took 4 advanced courses: Advanced Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics 2, Modern topics in Condensed matter, Low temperature & High magnetic field Physics. Side-by-side, in the first year, I got back the recognition, which I lost due to Germany-trip controversy. My admission in Ph.D. program of IISc was a sufficient proof that I am not a "fraud". Here is a news article saying that I have sealed the debate (controversy).

After course-work (also known as Research Training Program), I decided to work in the area of "Quantum Information theory" and started reading research papers related to it, but very soon I was attacked by lot of medical problems which took four months off my studies. After recovery in Jan. 2004, I again started my studies, worked on some problems and finally I passed my Comprehensive exam to get awarded Senior Research fellowship from Aug. 2004.
